History

Corry Memorial Hospital has been serving the region for over 115 years.

Established in 1894, Corry Memorial has gone through several transformations leading up to today. The hospital currently has 25 Acute beds and 10 Geriatric Behavioral Health Beds and has over 25 different services for inpatient and outpatient use. Employing over 240 people, the hospital has over 60 physicians and over 60 nurses on their available staff.

During the early years and again during the depression, the hospital experienced very difficult financial times, but through the support of the community it was able to survive. In 1949, a cornerstone was laid for a new modern hospital in Corry. The consensus from the community was that the new hospital would serve as a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives in World War II. The name was changed from Corry Hospital Association to its current name,Corry Memorial Hospital. By 1951 the new building was complete and settled in at its present location on 612 West Smith Street.

In 1967, Corry Memorial Hospital added a new wing and in 1972 the Corry Medical Group added to the back of the facility with new physician’s offices. In 1977 an intensive care unit was added and in 1987 the hospital went through with a major renovation adding additional surgery suites and updating its maternity suites. The Vaughn Professional Building was built in 1992, rounding out the enhancements throughout the 20th Century. Now in the 21st Century, Corry Memorial Hospital has gone through even more improvements with their 10-bed New Hope Behavioral Health Unit, surgical suites and a new front entrance welcoming patients and visitors.

Corry Memorial Hospital has been able to provide “state-of-the-art” medical facilities for the past one hundred years because of the efforts of the Board of Trustees, the doctors, nurses and employees. But the largest support has come from the community in which people have graciously supported the continual improvement of the hospital.
